Four Miscarriages, Dysfunctional Family And Ksh800 Salary… Pinky Ghelani Speaks On Her Traumatizing Tribulations

Former Capital FM presenter Pinky Ghelani spoke on some of the most traumatic experiences she went through in the past 45 years that she has been alive.

For starters, Pinky broke into the limelight when she was crowned Miss India Kenya in 2000. She became a household name in the media industry while working as a radio presenter at Capital FM.

While appearing on Churchill Show on January 23rd, Pinky revealed that her journey has not been easy as many people would like to imagine.

The mother of two opened up about some of the most traumatizing events she has encountered.

Pinky speak on her family feud which saw her step-brother holding a gun to her mother’s head.

She revealed that her family had another family and when he passed on there was a bitter struggle over his estate.

Pinky said in another instance her step-brother burnt her mother on her leg with a hot skewer.

“Growing up, I saw my mum in and out of court being questioned. It is things that movies are made out of. My step-brother, the son of the first wife, once burnt my mother on her leg with a hot skewer because he wanted money. He put a gun to her head because he wanted money. These are things I witnessed as I was growing up,” Pinky said.

Family wrangles aside, Pinky also recounted how she landed her first job where she was paid a monthly salary of Ksh800.

“I finished my A-levels at the age of 16 and then I took a break because I was too young to go to the University and I started working. I worked at Copy Cat and I remember my first salary was 800 shillings,” Pinky recalled.

She further narrated how she left Kenya for US to study only to be called back immediately following her brother’s sudden death through an accident.

“When I hit the age of 17 years, I was ready to go to the University but I was adamant I didn’t want to go anywhere else but the States. In August 1993, I left the country and made it to the States two days later. After a week, I got a phone call that I had to come back. They didn’t tell me why.”

Pinky said she was only informed of her brother’s tragic death when she touched down in Nairobi, she was left heartbroken and ultimately made the decision not to leave home again.

Pinky also recounted her battle to have children when she got married. She suffered a record four miscarriages before God blessed her with two children – a boy and a girl.

“They are growing up so fast. They are wise I learn from them. I would be a mum of six, I had four miscarriages. It was very heartbreaking because the loss of a child in any stage of life is a loss and I had to grieve,” Pinky said.

She also added that while she would want more children, there is the issue of age.

“I’m gonna be 46 in February so I don’t think I want any more babies, it’s a good idea but I can have children other ways.”
