Ruto Concedes Defeat In Nguu/Masumba By-election As Maneno Is Granted Victory

DP Ruto has congratulated Timothy Maneno for claiming victory in the Nguu/Masumba ward by election that was conducted on Thursday.

Taking to his twitter account, Ruto also congratulated Wiper’s Eshio Mwaiwa for his performance.

“This is refreshing! Hongera Mheshimiwa Timothy Maneno kwa ushindi wako! Hats off Hon. Eshio Mwaiwa of Wiper for your brave show.

He further commended UDA’S candidate David Musau for coming number two in the contest.

“Congratulations Hon. Daniel Musau of the @UDAKenya for the sterling performance at the just concluded Nguu/Masumba Ward by-election. Coming second in the tight race is a demonstration that we are breaking tribal barriers and establishing a new culture of issues-based politics,” Ruto stated.
Others who have celebrated Maneno for his win include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana.
“I congratulate the People of Nguu-Masumba Ward for their determination to uphold democracy. They have spoken loud and clear in electing Timothy Maneno. I thank all the gallant leader-volunteers who supported The Independent candidate,” Kibwana said.

“We take this early opportunity to congratulate Timothy on winning the Nguu/Masumba ward seat on an independent ticket. We also thank other candidates including our Wiper candidate Eshio Mwaiwa and UDA’s Daniel Musau for putting up a brave fight to capture the seat,” Kalonzo said on Thursday.

Maneno who ran as an independent candidate won by garnering 2,894. Musau followed with 2,223 while Mwaiwa got 1,601 votes.

“A total of 6,783 votes were cast representing 60.33 percent voter turnout. Valid votes were 6,735 while rejected votes were 48. The Commission would like to thank our voters and stakeholders for their participation and support #October14thByelections” IEBC said.

The Nguu/Masumba ward seat fell vacant following the death of Harrison Ngui who was involved in a road accident in June.

Ngui was on is way to Nairobi from his home in Nguu when his vehicle collided head on lorry at ACK area, Salama, along Mombasa—Nairobi highway.
