The coffin had a nailed in lifeless body of missing teacher, named Joseph Gathogo.
The remains of teacher Joseph Gathogo who has been missing for weeks were discovered on Thursday, sealed and nailed in a coffin like boat inside his house.
The coffin build like “boat” was made of concrete blocks which was also wrapped in cardboard. Flowers, ornaments, a cow horn, and scrolls containing foreign language writings were scattered around the ‘boat coffin’.
On December 22, 2022, Mr Gathogo, aged 44, a teacher who taught computer classes at Muhoya Secondary School, went missing. After he went missing, nobody in his area noticed his absence, until his family came looking for him on January 7, 2023.
According to Mr. William Gitau, the caretaker, where the deceased resided for 14 years. He went on to say that, given the teacher rarely left his house, including on weekends, he did not find it odd.
“You could only find him outside whenever he was going to the shop,” he said.
The teacher, who enjoyed playing loud music, hardly ever had visitors, according to Mr. Gitau.
However, while cleaning the compound, the caretaker discovered that a bad odor was coming from the teacher’s house.
Nation reports that, “Police broke into the house and found the teacher’s naked body inside a three-foot coffin in his sitting room.”
Unbelievably, the body was secured with nails inside the box. There were medications there that were supposedly poisonous.
According to Nyeri County Police Commander Steve Oloo, the police believe the teacher may have committed suicide.
Given that the door was shut from the outside and the body was nailed inside the “coffin,” it is unclear how this could have happened.
