Other than her lavish lifestyle, the late politician Orie Rogo Manduli was known for her tough and outspoken personality.
In 2014, Orie’s daughter Elizabeth Rogo got married at the All-Saint-Cathedral, Nairobi with her Ghanian fiance in a high-end wedding ceremony attended by some of the country’s top leaders.
During the wedding, Orie Rogo surprised many when she became the center of attention while walking her elder daughter down the eale.
As she walked her daughter towards the pulpit, the late politician kept on stopping her daughter to either do her make-up herself or wipe out her sweat in her fail.
As if that was not enough, she continuously held her daughter against walking fast. Explaining her action, the late Orie noted that it was her daughter’s day hence should not be in a hurry to reach her then-husband to be.
After the wedding, Orie stunned many when she warned her daughter’s husband against forcing her child to drop her family name, “Rogo”.
Orie insisted that her daughter should never change the name noting that she wants the name “Rogo” to be popular in Ghana just like it is popular in Kenya and Zambia where she was married.
Another contentious that happened during the wedding is that it was Orie Rogo who unveiled her daughter’s veil, a job traditionally meant for the groom to do.
Apart from controversies that surrounded her daughter’s wedding, Orie Rogo was also known for her strong stand in some contentious issues that affected the country. Commonly known as the “Lioness in the cage”
In 2005, the businesswoman was embroiled in a leadership wrangle with then Culture and Heritage minister Najib Balala.
At the time, Balala blocked everyone from entering and leaving her premises with armed policemen guarding her compound. During his time, she could only speak to reporters through a small opening on the metal gate.
