Isaac Mwaura and Nelius Mukami were blessed with triplets but two died and we were left with a son and Ksh11.2 million hospital bill to clear.
Mwaura’s wife gave birth to triplets in January 2017, she delivered her three babies premature at 6 months – two boys and a girl.
“At the eighth week, after the scan, I discovered I was carrying triplets. The kids came early at 28 weeks. They were kept in ICU. The first one passed on after two days, the second one on the 10th week. On the 12th week, I was discharged with my son, Njiru,” said Nelius in an interview with the Star.
The couple had to pay a whopping Ksh11.2 million bill that accrued during their stay in hospital.
Nelius slipped into depression soon after the deaths of her son and daughter. She was in and out of depression from April to December 2017.
“Immediately after I left hospital, I was in and out of depression between April and December. During that period, we drifted apart with some friends although there were those who stayed and supported me fully,” said Nelius.
Fast forward to 2022, Isaac Mwaura has urged people to stop pressuring couples to get children.
Speaking to the Star, Mwaura said some of his friends ask him and his wife Mukami when they are getting other children.
The nominated senator said he was still traumatized by the deaths of his two children and that he was still hesitant to have another child.
Mwaura noted that son Njiru is his greatest gift, although he wishes to get another child.
“Even if he was to be alone, we love him very much. We would love to have many but because of the trauma that we went through, people are a little bit modest,” Isaac Mwaura said.
Speaking on his son and daughter who died, the nominated senator said he was sure he would reconnect with them in heaven.
“I am sure one day I will reconnect with them coz heaven is real and I know they are well taken care of,” Isaac Mwaura said.
