Nonini Explains Why He Was Forced To Terminate MCSK Membership

Nonini is no longer a member of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya(MCSK) which has always clashed with musicians whenever royalties are distributed.

The Genge rapper formally requested to terminate his MCSK membership way back on February 17, 2022, in a letter written to the organization.

MCSK took three months to respond to Nonini’s request to terminate his membership, CEO Ezekiel Mutua approved the rapper’s decision to quit in a letter dated May 18, 2022.

“Please note that your membership at Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has been terminated effective May 18, 2022 as per article 9(e) of Articles of Association of MCSK. We wish you all the best in your endeavors,” the letter from MCSK reads in part.

Nonini who shared a copy of the letter from MCSK explained that he was tired about complaining over the same things over and over again with no action taken.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Moving on to something that actually works,” Nonini wrote.

The rapper has been on the forefront advocating for better pay from collective management organizations (CMOs) – bodies such as MCSK tasked with collecting and distributing royalties to musicians.

In 2018, Nonini quit the Performer Right Society of Kenya (PRISK) where he was the chairman, accusing the board of going against the conditions that had been set be Kenya Copyrights Board, which regulates PRISK.
